Meta is a Greek word that means ‘after’. Metaphysics took its name from the treatise that Aristotle wrote after the treatise called Physics. The deepest, most physical thing that I’ve learned over the years of writing poetry is that the word follows the word. The first word spoken brings the poem forth. The poem in that sense is the metalogos of the first logos, the words that follow the word. In these poems, I have tried to listen, humbly and earnestly, to the words as they come from words, and I have learned that the words as they come forth come not from the sky but through the body, and that every part of the body has its own function in creating language, the language daring to say I speak.
